I love autumn. I love the contrast of soothing sunshine and crisp air; vivid blue skies contrasted with gold and red leaves. Poetry speaks to my soul especially at this time of year, and I wanted to share a poem with you.
The following is entitled “Autumn Fires.” Robert Louis Stevenson wrote it in 1913 for “A Child’s Garden of Verses.”
In the other gardens
And all up the vale,
From the autumn bonfires
See the smoke trail!
Pleasant summer over
And all the summer flowers,
The red fire blazes,
The gray smoke towers.
Sing a song of seasons!
Something bright in all!
Flowers in the summer,
Fires in the fall!
