By now the whole world has heard the news. Barack Obama has been elected the next President of the United States. That means that, while 52% of Americans are rejoicing, 46% woke up feeling a little (or a lot) disappointed.

This morning, my reading in I Kings 18 encouraged me and I wanted to pass some of that on to you. Elijah’s words reminded me that our God is not preoccupied with His thoughts, busy, traveling, or asleep. He is still, and always will be, sovereign and in control.  He didn’t wake up this morning and say, "Oh no, I forgot all about that election. How did I let that one slip by me?" He is the King of all Kings and He alone appoints rulers and sets them in place. All authority is ordained by Him (Daniel 2:21, Romans 13:1).

Our part remains the same, whether we voted for Obama, McCain, or even Nader. We are commanded to pray for  those in authority (I Timothy 2:1-2). The Office of President, elected by the voice of the people, is one that deserves our respect. We need to come together, Democrats and Republicans, to lead our nation back to one that puts God first and follows His moral law. As believers in Jesus Christ, we can do that. Yes, we can.
